Job Title: PAWS Advocate
Responsible To: Shelter Director
Supervisor: Susan Spector, Volunteer Coordinator
Time: 4:45-8pm
Location of Volunteer Work: 336 N. Rush St, Prescott, AZ
Age Requirement: 18+


DUTIES
This position's main focus is to provide supervision and companionship for shelter guests. This volunteer may specifically help with crisis intervention, shelter meals, house management, individual and group problem solving and maintenance of a safe and supportive atmosphere for our guests.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge in child & adolescent development, needs, behavior;
  • Behavior management techniques;
  • Knowing Prescott's social service resources;
  • Active Listening Skills;
  • Cultural diversity and value system;
  • Child welfare laws, regulations and guidelines, including mandated reporting requirements;
  • Analyzing situations and information; using sound judgment to make decisions and determine appropriate course(s) of action;
  • Establishing and maintaining professional relationships with clients/families, staff and community agents;
  • Developing and implementing appropriate problem-solving, life skills, and behavior management strategies

Training provided: Minimal on-going training is required
